When I pulled the MotoGirl Lara cargo pants out of the packaging, they looked comprehensive—that is to say, I found myself looking at many pockets, adjustments, and some cuffs! It’s not my usual vanilla style of pants.
When I first saw the MotoGirl Lara cargo pants, my nose wrinkled a little, as they would not be my usual first pick of style. I thought this style would be bulky and might make me look a little too plump for my liking—images of Michelin Man popped into my head.
However, when I slipped the MotoGirl Lara cargo pants on, I discovered the fabric is soft and malleable. I immediately felt almost shamefully cuddly. These pants are incredibly comfortable, so much so that I pottered about my business wearing them even though no imminent ride was planned. My motorcycle gear in the past has been a roughty-tufty, pull ’em on with almost a fight type of affair; the Lara pants slipped on easily.
They are belly button height mid-rise style. Unusually, the Lara pants have four waist adjusters. This flexible fit feature prevents them from dipping at the back when leaning forward into the riding position on my sport bike. At the other end of the pants, the ankle cuff keeps them nicely in place when pulling boots on or if, like me, you sometimes choose to wear ankle boots.
The most outstanding element of the Lara pants is the array of pockets, which is not a surprise given their status as cargo pants. These are real pockets with plenty of space to fit stuff in; some are big enough for the largest smartphones, plus more. It felt good to distribute the cluster of items I sometimes carry around my legs instead of putting everything in my jacket, which can make my torso area feel a bit trussed up.
The MotoGirl Lara cargo pants have a CE Class A rating for abrasion—the lowest of three levels—so they’re safest in lower-speed urban riding. The knee and hip armor, however, is higher spec—CE Level 2, which is the highest rating for impact protection. The armor can be removed if you’re wearing the pants off the bike—leave the armor in when riding.
MotoGirl gear is available worldwide from Australian-based Peak Moto. Founded by Amanda Phoenix after a 2015 motorcycle crash, Phoenix realized that her hard items, including keys and phone, should not be carried around soft organs when riding. In response, Phoenix designed a bum bag and founded Flying Solo Gear Company for distribution. FSGC’s product line has expanded to backpacks, leg bags, and tail bags with designs focused on comfort. FSGC is both an apparel company and the Peak Moto retail store, enabling Amanda to sell other brands besides FSGC under the Peak Moto label umbrella. Peak Moto ships MotoGirl Lara cargo pants, along with the entire MotoGirl line—jackets, overalls, leggings, jeggings, pants, and gloves.
