Prince William Visits Ducati Stand at Motorcycle Live

Ducati at Motorcycle Live 2013

Ducati’s stand at the UK’s largest motorcycle event, Motorcycle Live, brought in a very special guest this past Saturday – Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

The Duke was personally introduced to the features on some of Ducati’s 2014 motorcycles at the event held in the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England.

Managing Director of Ducati UK Tim Maccabee provided the royal guest with all the features of the new Ducati Monster 1200 and the Diavel power cruiser. At one point, the Duke climbed aboard the Diavel when someone from the public shouted “Go on, get on it!”

Prince William did just that, and then met with former Ducati British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne as the two discussed the Italian motorcycles.

Besides getting a first look at the Monster 1200 and Diavel, Prince William was also introduced to the Ducati 1199 Superleggera, which make its UK debut at Motorcycle Live 2013. The Superleggra is as royal to the Ducati lineup as Prince William is to Cambridge; the bike, which will be available in a limited amount of 500, is perfects the lightweight/high horsepower combination, and features the highest power-to-weight ratio of any production motorcycle in history.

Tim Maccabee says: “It was a real pleasure and an honor to host HRH Prince William on our stand. He was pleased to take a look around and certainly seemed to enjoy sitting on the different models. He commented on how light the Diavel was, but I think he favored the 1199 Superleggera.”

The visit was completed with a look at the new Ducati 899 Panigale and an overview of the Ducati TriOptions Cup series in which the model will compete, announced for 2014 as a support race within the British Superbike Championship, Ducati reports.
