In four out of five stages so far in 2012 Dakar Rally, two men have equal wins – KTM’s Cyril Despres and Marc Coma.

This is no surprise considering the talent of these two KTM pilots – each have three-overall Dakar wins apiece, both having collectively taken the last six Dakar Rally victories in the motorcycle category.

Here’s the rundown of stage winners so far in the 33rd Dakar Rally –

  • Stage One – Francisco “Chaleco” Lopez – Aprilia
  • Stage Two – Marc Coma – KTM
  • Stage Three – Cyril Despres – KTM
  • Stage Four – Marc Coma – KTM
  • Stage Five – Cyril Despres – KTM

The latest stage – five – took riders from Chilecito to Fiambalá, but the special stage was shortened from 165 to 115 miles due to storm damage on the bike’s route. After taking his 28th-career stage victory, Despres ended the stage 1:41 over his main rival Coma.

The Frenchman now holds a 9:50 lead over Coma, with Yamaha’s Helder Rodrigues 46:56 back in third, and Aprilia’s Chaleco in fourth, 49:00 behind.

Attached above are video highlights of Stage Five in the 2012 Dakar Rally.
