FIM Motorcycle Racing News

While certain parts of Europe have been gripped by the early onset of winter, the Portuguese coastal town of Estoril is basking in bright sunshine as it awaits Friday’s prestigious FIM Gala Ceremony.

Sitting just north of the capital city of Lisbon, Estoril is no stranger to being in the global spot light with it now being an established stop on the MotoGP motorcycle racing tour.

Already many of the FIM World Champions are arriving in the seaside destination in preparation to collect their awards Friday evening.

The ceremony, which will be presented by motorcycling’s most famous female TV face – Suzi Perry, who will be broadcast live in a number of different countries around the world.

No less than 30 FIM World Champions of motorcycle racing will be present at the Estoril Casino Friday evening for the Gala Ceremony, with the current elite of two-wheel sport being joined by seven motorcycling legends.

These include Katja Poensgen, Ivan Mauger, Anders Eriksson, Jordi Tarres, Roger de Coster, Carl Fogarty and Giacomo Agostini, who will also be honored during this glittering occasion.

In addition to the widespread TV coverage, motorcycle fans across the globe will also be able to watch the ceremony live on the internet at FIM-LIVE.com – the coverage will begin at 21.00hrs GMT.

Olivier Godallier (FIM Marketing and Communications Director) says: "Although the winter weather has caused us a few extra logistical considerations, everything is very much on schedule for tomorrow evening."

"The riders and legends seem genuinely excited about this unique opportunity to celebrate the champions and successes of this season, plus the chance to show case motorcycle sport as a whole live on TV."
