AMA Superbike to VIR August 13-15
With the final three events of the year scheduled in just six weeks time, AMA Pro Racing looks forward to the second half of the season with the Suzuki White Lightning AMA Pro SuperBike Nationals presented by Foremost Insurance.
Scheduled for August 13th through the 15th at VIRginia International Raceway, success at this event will be a key in building momentum for the final push towards the 2010 championship not only for individual riders, but for each of the teams and manufacturers as well.
“Riders in the American SuperBike, Daytona SportBike & SuperSport bike classes have piled up a lot of miles crisscrossing the country between events this year,” said Josh Lief, General Manager of VIRginia International Raceway.
“With the final races all on the East Coast, we look for a large turnout of riders and a great show at the Suzuki White Lightning AMA Pro SuperBike Nationals presented by Foremost Insurance as they heads towards conclusion of the 2010 season.”
With Suzuki as the title sponsor, posting a strong showing will be important for this highly visible event. Headlining the weekend will be the American SuperBike series, where Tommy Hayden (Suzuki GSX-R1000), Josh Hayes (Yamaha YZF-R1) & Jake Zemke (Suzuki GSX-R1000) are all currently in contention for the 2010 season championship.
Blake Young (Suzuki GSX-R1000) & Larry Pegram (Ducati 1098R), event winners from earlier this year, remain within close striking distance.
In the diverse Daytona SportBike category, last year’s championship runner-up Josh Herrin (Yamaha YZF-R6) will continue to try to put distance between himself and Danny Eslick (Suzuki GSX-R600) who was the champion from 2009.
Martin Cardenas (Suzuki GSX-R600), who saw last year’s title hopes dashed when he was injured, sits in third. With each race in this series being just a 50-mile sprint, the action will be fast and furious right from the start of the race.
SuperSport, which is a 600cc class for up and coming riders between the ages of 16 and 21, will see a tightly bunched group of riders with Cameron Beaubier, Tomas Puerta & Huntley Nash all pursuing J.D. Beach in a close battle for the 2010 season crown. Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki and Buell all have bikes eligible for competition in this class.
Fans attending the Suzuki White Lightning AMA Pro SuperBike Nationals at VIRginia International Raceway will also witness the pivotal race in the new Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XR1200 series along with an electric bike TTGXP event, which represents the leading edge in evolving motorcycle green technology.
“With AMA Pro Racing being the premier motorcycle racing organization in North America, there is a lot riding on the shoulders of each entrant as the end of the race season approaches,” said Rod Short, Director of Marketing & Public Relations at VIR.
“Each and every team wants to help their bike manufacturer, suppliers and sponsors gain prominence in the sport. The fans will be in for dramatic and entertaining show.”
Fan friendly features at this year’s Suzuki White Lightning AMA Pro SuperBike Nationals presented by Foremost Insurance will include big screen viewing, free parking and a special motorcycle parking area along with easy paddock access, special vending displays and great food.
The always thrilling Jason Britton stunt show, a weekend long motorcycle show/corral and appearances from the always popular Umbrella and VIR girls will add even more excitement to the weekend.
