After being diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Foundation’s founder, Peter Starr, made it his personal mission to use his years of filmmaking experience and talent to help his fellow man by providing effective information about alternative medical treatments for the disease.
Jason Harley Abney, Hazel Wirth and Brandon Dooley were awarded the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute(MMI)/Jeremy McGrath Scholarship tonight at the 2009 Monster Energy® AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, finals at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
The MMI/Jeremy McGrath Scholarship was designed for individuals who have a passion for working on motorcycles to submit an application and two-minute DVD expressing why they should receive the scholarship. This is the first year that three individuals will share $20,000 to apply to their program of choice at MMI campuses in Phoenix, Ariz.
If you’re planning a motorcycle trip to Sturgis this year, the ‘Why Sturgis?’ documentary on DVD will add some historical depth to the overall experience. The small town of Sturgis hosts the world’s oldest and largest motorcycle rally, as well as being rich with history and folklore.

Those familiar with On Any Sunday will remember Cal Rayborn breaking the motorcycle land speed record and topping 265 mph in 1970. BUB Enterprises CEO and Motorcycle Hall of Fame member Denis Manning designed Rayborn’s Harley-Davidson, and then returned to the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2006 to recapture the record he lost in 1975.
