Suzuki GSX-R 1000 Recall

Suzuki has recalled 2009-2011 GSX-R 1000 superbikes due to side stand issues; Suzuki says 4,969 Gixxers may be affected.

Suzuki says due to loose bolts on the side stand of the affected motorcycles, the interlock switch may fail, terminating the ignition circuit. When this occurs, the engine will stop running, increasing the risk of a crash.

Suzuki says it will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side stand interlock switch bolts free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about May 28, 2012. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-714-996-7040 for further information.

Suzuki’s recall number is 2A29; customers may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153, or safercar.gov.
