The 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 800 is the street-focused version of the off-road-ready V-Strom 800DE. It keeps the DE’s 776cc parallel twin and 5.3-gallon fuel tank, and the changes are aimed at pavement. The list price is $9899.
A 19-inch cast aluminum front wheel replaces the DE’s 21-inch wire-spoke wheel. Pure-street Dunlop D614 tires are tubeless, unlike the DE’s tube-type tires.
Braking is a big step up. Radially mounted 4-piston Nissin calipers work the 310mm front discs, replacing the DE’s conventionally mounted 2-piston calipers. The rear carries over with a 260mm disc and single-piston caliper.
The Showa suspension is simplified. The V-Strom 800 has a hair under six inches of wheel travel at both ends, compared to 8.7 inches on the DE, and the fork and shock have fixed damping and adjustable spring preload.
The geometry is more aggressive to match. Rake is 26 degrees, two degrees steeper than the DE, and the wheelbase is 2.2 inches shorter at 59.6 inches.
Ergonomics follow the same mission. The seat height drops 1.2 inches to 32.5 inches, and the narrower handlebar puts the grips farther forward for a more aggressive street stance. Rubber-covered aluminum footpegs replace the DE’s steel pegs.
The liquid-cooled DOHC twin has 270-degree crankshaft timing and a broad powerband, pulling linearly from just above idle to its 9500-rpm redline. The 6-speed transmission has a quickshifter, and the clutch has assist-and-slipper functions.
Dirt roads call for care, given 7.3 inches of ground clearance and no protective cowling. The V-Strom 800 is for riders who want adventure-bike versatility on paved roads. Suzuki keeps the color choice simple with Metallic Matte Steel Green.
