Metzeler has launched the Sportec 01 RS, a higher-performance alternative to the Sportec M9 RR. The Metzeler Sportec 01 RS is designed for riders who demand maximum performance both on the street and during occasional track sessions. The 01 RS promises significantly higher grip than the M9 RR, while remaining fully street-legal.

The new Metzeler Sportec 01 RS allows enthusiasts to ride to the circuit on the same rubber they’ll use on track, eliminating the need to trailer the motorcycle or swap wheels at the venue. According to our Metzeler source, the Sportec 01 RS raises the performance ceiling for supersport tires without sacrificing versatility and wet-weather capability.

The 01 RS features Metzeler’s patented Dynatread technology, which debuted on the Roadtec 02. Dynatread is an adaptive tread pattern that modifies its behavior under load to improve mechanical grip and high-speed stability. The compound and construction have been further optimized for supersport use on the track.

The Metzeler Sportec 01 RS is available in select sizes—all for 17-inch rims. The only front size is 120/70, while there are four rear options—180/55, 190/55, 200/55, and 200/60.

For riders who want higher mileage from a set of tires, as well as better wet-pavement performance, the Metzeler Sportec 01 is an alternative. Consider this tire to be the equivalent of the current Sportec M9 RR, which will likely be discontinued.

As a more mainstream tire, the standard 01 will be available in a broader range of sizes, though it will also be limited to 17-inch wheels. Riders have a choice of two front tire dimensions: 110/70 and 120/70. The rear will be manufactured in 150/60, 160/60, 180/55, 190/50, 190/55, and 200/55 sizes. This makes the tire accessible to small-displacement supersport bikes, such as the KTM RC 390 and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R.

The Metzeler Sportec 01 RS and 01 are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2026.
