2017 Suzuki DR-Z400SM

The Japanese have shied away from supermoto bikes in recent years, but the venerable 2017 Suzuki DR-Z400SM remains and is unchanged this year, except for the new color scheme.

It also happens to be the largest displacement supermoto machine Japan has ever sold in the United States. The DR-Z400SM is a supermoto version of the well-established DR-Z400S dual sport bike, sharing the same engine and frame. For supermoto service, the DR-Z400SM gets a suspension upgrade, 17-inch wheels, and Dunlop Sportmax street tires.

The result is a motorcycle that is a canyon bike, capable of the light-duty dirt riding, and still a fantastic commuter machine. Sure, we’d like to see fuel-injection and a 450cc motor, but until that updates comes, we enjoy the 2017 Suzuki DR-Z400SM, as is
