Dakar 2014 Video Review of Stage Six

The first half of the 2014 Dakar Rally wrapped up Friday with stage six, which took riders 288 miles from Tucuman to Salta in Argentina.

The stage was a tragic one; Belgium rider Eric Palante was found dead, and we’re still awaiting the official report on the circumstances of his passing.

The stage itself was won by Samsung Sherco’s Alain Duclos, who finished just ahead of Red Bull KTM’s Marc Coma and Red Bull Yamaha’s Michael Metge.

Coma now has an advantage as he chases his fourth Dakar title. Overall, Coma has the lead by over 42 minutes ahead of Team HRC Honda’s Joan Barreda, who won stages one and three.

The riders get their only day of rest Saturday ahead of the Dakar’s second marathon stage, which means the riders will have no mechanics on hand.

As for five-time Dakar winner Cyril Despres, the Frenchman is now 11th overall, almost 2.5 hours behind Coma.
