Once glance through Honda’s latest motorcycle brochures, and it’s easy to see the Japanese manufacturer has spent much energy developing entry-level and affordable motorcycles.

These bikes are highlighted by the CBR250R, and the current lineup of 500cc motorcycles – the CB500F, the CB500X and the CBR500R.

But on the big side of displacement, the only thing new to arrive lately out of Honda was the F6B. A slimmed down version of the Gold Wing, the F6B caters to the bagger market.

But all of this changed this week when Honda released its latest version of the Valkyrie, a bike that has been long gone from the lineup. The original Valkyrie (1996-2003) featured a 1520cc flat six, but things get bigger for 2014 – much bigger. Just like the F6B, the 2014 Honda Valkyrie is based on the Gold Wing, and features the 1832 horizontally-opposed flat six that pumps out over 100 horsepower.

Honda adds a single-sided swingarm, twin-spar aluminum frame, 310mm front discs, LED lighting, and muscular aesthetics, and keeps the weight to around 750 lb. – 150 lb. lighter than its starship Gold Wing.

This combination produces a new power cruiser, one that Honda says redefines the term “muscle cruiser.” And to keep things bold, the colors remain dark; the 2014 Valkyrie is offered in Black, Dark Red Metallic and Blue Metallic. Honda says the price should be around $17,000.
