Suzuki GSX-R1000 Yoshimura Extreme Fairings Project Bike

When our long-term test Suzuki GSX-R1000 needed a revamp, the most obvious challenge was the lack of bodywork. But help was at hand. ExtremeFairings.com was established just over a year ago, and in that short time their price and quality has made them the best in the business for aftermarket bodywork.

Their competitors typically charge around $200 more for the same thing. For our project Gixxer, not only is the ExtremeFairings.com bodywork less than one third the price of OEM, but the delivery is free and relatively quick.

As if that wasn’t tempting enough, custom painting is at no extra charge. Yes, you read that correctly.

Some replacement fairing companies use thin plastic with hand-glued or plastic-welded bolt receivers that can break off. Extreme Fairings use injection molded ABS plastic-the same as factory OEM parts, but because the bolt receptors are an integral part of the molding they can’t break off.

The original bodywork is used as the pattern for the molds, so fitting to the motorcycle is precise and doesn’t require any re-drilling.

Each set of bodywork is painted individually, and amazingly, custom painting is no more expensive. With our Yoshimura project bike, it seemed natural to finish the bike in the 2012 AMA racebike colors, so we downloaded a few pictures from the internet and sent them over. Approximately three weeks later and presto-the bodywork arrived. Not only did it look good, it looked great…actually, we were blown away.

ExtremeFairings.com is also happy to add as many stickers to a paint job as a customer requires, so if you have a club logo or specialized sticker you’d like included, it’s no problem; only graffiti can’t be replicated.

So how about a Marc Marquez replica Honda 600? Simoncelli replica Honda 1000RR? What about painting your Yamaha R1 or R6 in that Spies red/white limited paint from last year? …or the Tech3 Monster energy black and neon? Hayden’s Ducati? …the opportunities are literally endless.

Our Yoshimura superbike replica (Blake Young Livery) included all the stickers, although unlike the original racebike they are an integral part of the paint. That means they’re included under the three layers of clear coat, and that’s great news on a street bike.

The paint job is of surprisingly high quality and the paint itself seems to be well prepped and deep. The color matching to the original is remarkable; for example the sky blue metallic matched the race bike perfectly.

Metallic finishes are not charged extra, so if your thing is bling – go for it. The paint finish isn’t quite flawless, but it’s so close I feel overly-critical to even bring it up. If you look closely a couple of small chips can be found on some of the edges, and one sticker wasn’t masked quite correctly, but it’s at the bottom of one of the lowers and simply isn’t seen unless you crouch down and look very closely.

So overall, the paint scheme looks like a custom job that should have cost several thousand dollars–an astounding accomplishment by ExtremeFairings.com.

Assembling the new bodywork presented no real challenge; the holes matched precisely and the interlocking parts meshed together well. We also needed a full set of bolts and Suzuki OEM bolts have to be ordered individually; something we simply didn’t have the patience to do.

So a quick phone call to our friend Dave Cork at Pro-Bolt.com had a full set of fasteners to us. We upgraded from the stock plain aluminum finish and instead went with a bright anodized blue that really gave the bike a custom finished look. The Pro-Bolt kit arrived within 2 days and was complete.

ExtremeFairings.com also include 1×1 meter of heat shielding for areas around the exhaust headers; a seat cowl (also custom painted to match the overall scheme), and a clear windshield (tinted is available instead if desired). All items shipped from Extreme are fully warranted, to the point that if you don’t like their product you can return it for a refund. If a part breaks or cracks in shipping, they will send you the replacement piece free of charge.

Bottom line is that the availability of a full and complete set of bodywork, custom painted to any design, for an average price of $490-$590 now opens up possibilities that simply didn’t exist before ExtremeFairings.com opened their doors.

In fact, I’d suggest that when you buy your next motorcycle, buy a replacement set of bodywork from Extreme, have it painted with your own cool design or one copied from your favorite race or stunt team, and store your OEM bodywork for when you sell the bike. Think about that.
