After an exciting tussle in the last few laps of the Moto2 race in Estoril, Portugal, Sunday, Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) managed to hold off Julián Simón (Mapfre Aspar) to claim victory, with a poignant rostrum finish for Yuki Takahashi (Gresini Racing) who came third less than a week after the tragic death of his brother.
Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) opened his season in style by taking the second Moto2 win of his career at Losail International Circuit, Qatar, having started from pole position for the first time in his GP tenure.
The German Moto2 rider led from the start of the race and eventually won by a large margin of 4.330s.
In Moto2 qualifying for the opening round at Losail International Circuit, Losail, Stefan Bradl (Viessmann Kiefer Racing) converted his practice session pace into pole position for the intermediate category race.
A lap of 2’00.168 secured the German rider the first pole of his World Championship career to date.
Valentino Rossi added a third pole position to an enviable haul from 2009 at Sachsenring on Saturday, coming out on top in a drenched qualifying session at the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.
Rossi’s last gasp 1’32.520 lap was not only enough to head the timesheet by over six-tenths of a second, but it was also sufficient to give him a first ever MotoGP pole at the German track.
