Kyle Wyman broke free from an exciting four-rider drafting pack to make a dramatic last lap pass to earn his first professional road racing win on his Harley-Davidson XR1200 motorcycle in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 series season opener at 2011 Daytona International Speedway March 11.
The second AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport was halted within seconds of the start, then-second-place runner RoadracingWorld.com’s Benny Solis the first of two highsides, with the Yamaha-mounted Travis Ohge being spit off the opposite side of the track a split-second later.
The first AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race of the 2011 season culminated in a last-lap drafting battle that produced an all-Colombian podium, LTD Racing’s Tomas Puerta-who worked construction over the off-season to pay his way back to the U.S.-took his first AMA Pro victory of his career in dominant fashion.
Despite bad luck in the final 2009 World Superbike round in Portimao, Team BMW Motorrad Motorsport seem happy with their first year in the Superbike World Championship and are already looking forward to 2010. The team always knew that this year was going to be hard, but Troy, Ruben and the whole team have performed better than many expected in their first year of World Superbike competition, taking seventeen top finishes during the season.
