2011 MotoGP Finale

The closest finish of the 2011 MotoGP Championship occurred at Valencia Sunday after Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner beat Yamaha Factory Racing’s Ben Spies to the line by a mere 0.015 of a second.

The only other 2011 MotoGP race when the 1-2 finishers were within a second of each other was at Mugello, when Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo beat Andrea Dovizioso to the line by 0.997 of a second.

The Valencia win was Stoner’s 10th of the 2011 season, achieved after taking his 12th pole of the season. With his 12th pole, the Australian has now matched the record poles set in a single season, Stoner joining five-time 500cc Champion Mick Doohan.

Joining Stoner and Spies on the podium at the season finale was Dovizioso. For a review of 2011 Valencia MotoGP, click here.
