MotoAmerica has its KTM RC390 Cup that uses spec-KTM RC390 machinery, and World Superbike has its European Junior Cup that uses spec-Honda CBR650F machinery.

Now the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship has its own spec series – the Suzuki Gixxer Cup. The championship uses 150cc Gixxer SF motorcycles, which were launched to the Indian market in August 2014.

The series, which begins next month during the season opener of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship at Coimbatore (KMS), will feature a full grid of 20 Gixxer SF motorcycles race prepped by Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL).

Competitors will compete for five rounds of racing at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore and Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai. The machines will be prepared by a dedicated team of experts and pit crew to support the riders in the series that runs from June until October.

The Gixxer SF is very popular in the Indian market, and received numerous accolades, including nine from leading Indian media for its “cutting-edge sporty design, superior fuel efficiency and strong acceleration.” Just how popular? Since its launch in August 2014, Gixxer SF sales have increased to between 6000 and 7000 units per month

With the launch of the Gixxer Cup, Suzuki aims to set new standards for One Make Racing and lay the foundation of Suzuki’s global racing culture in India, promoting motorsports and the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie, Suzuki reports.

Atul Gupta, Executive Vice President of Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Ltd, said: “Suzuki is a legendary name in the racing world and Suzuki motorcycles are among the fastest and most finely-crafted racing machines in the world. Apart from showcasing the real potential of the Gixxer SF to Indian motorsport enthusiasts, this championship will double-up as an opportunity for local racers to hone their skills by providing them an affordable platform to gain valuable racing experience and exposure to the dynamic sport of motorcycle racing.”

The Gixxer Cup championship is approved by the FMSCI (The Federation of Motor
Sports Clubs of India) and organized by the Madras Motor Sports Club, which is one of the oldest and most active motorsports clubs in the country.
