KTM has announced a voluntary recall of several 2025 model-year products due to the potential for vibration-induced cracking of the side stand spring. If the spring breaks, the side stand can drop into the deployed position, creating a safety hazard.
Only models with a forged side stand are included in the recall, and only a few instances have been reported. However, the recall is being initiated to avoid any potential future problems.
This happened to us on our KTM 390 Adventure X test bike, though we were unsure of the cause. No crash or injury result, though we did have to strap up the kickstand to get home, as the motor won’t run in gear with it down. We did not experience the issue on the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R, Enduro R, or SMC R.

KTM will send owners of a 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R, Adventure X, Enduro R, or SMC R a letter instructing them on how to have the recall service performed. Owners should contact their KTM dealer to arrange the work, which will include replacing the side stand spring, installing a rubber vibration protector, and installing a new side stand sensor retaining plate, which enables adjustment of the trigger range of the side stand switch. The parts and labor for the recall work will be performed by authorized KTM dealers at no charge to the owner.
The release advises owners who may ride their KTM 390 to the dealer for service to secure the side stand in the raised position to prevent its potential deployment should the spring fail en route.
