Following his hard-earned second-place finish in 2012 Dakar, Marc Coma’s fellow neighbors in his hometown of Avia, Spain, paid tribute to the rider with a huge celebration.
The MRW KTM 450 Rally rider, who finished behind his KTM teammate Cyril Despres at this year’s event that took riders almost 5,600 miles from Mar Del Plata, Argentina, to Lima, Peru, was welcomed by affectionate neighbors as he arrived home in Avia, which is just over 90 miles from Barclona.
Speaking of the event, MRW KTM reports: “After a formal ceremony at the City Hall with the attendance of Patrocini Canal, the town Mayor, Mr IvanTibau, Secretary General for Sport of the Generalitat and Mr. Josep Maldonado, President of Esport Solidari Internacional, the protagonist of the event addressed his fellow citizens to thank them for their unconditional support in the good and the bad moments. Avià answered showing all their support and confirming their loyalty.
“The celebration ended with a motorcycle caravan that travelled several miles through the streets and roads of the region, as well as a motocross caravan with the young talents of the region, who dream of one day being able to follow the steps of the MRW rider.
“After today, Coma will enjoy a well-deserved holidays, before focusing on the preparations for the 2012 Cross Country Rallies World Championship.”
