    Rickey Gadson: Nine-time drag racer champion

    The winningest professional motorcycle drag racer in AMA Prostar Drag Racing history and a national champion nine-times over, Rickey Gadson has taken the sport of motorcycle drag racing to new heights. Gadson found his love for motorcycles at nine years old when his dad put him on his first Kawasaki street bike and by age 13 he was racing on the drag strip.

    Gadson became the sport’s first full-time factory-sponsored rider in 1998 when he signed with the Kawasaki.

    Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Rickey Gadson captured his ninth-career championship in the Supersport class at the final round of the AMA Dragbike Series at the South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, Ga. Gadson secured the championship after his first run, then topped off the season with a win in the class. In just his first year running the popular Pro Street class, Gadson steadily improved throughout the year, finishing the year with his best qualifying effort of third.

    The morning practice and qualifying sessions are complete for the American Motocross Festival from Steel City Raceway. After two sessions apiece in the 450 and 250 classes, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Moss and Rockstar/Makita/Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey sat atop the charts, respectively. Honda Red Bull Racing’s Ashley Fiolek led the way in the lone WMX Class session.

    The first gates drop on the American Motocross Festival at 1 p.m. ET. Television coverage of the 250 Class from Steel City Raceway can be seen tonight on SPEED at midnight ET.

    In conjunction with the American Motocross Festival, the season finale of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, defending Women’s Motocross champion and current WMX Class points leader Ashley Fiolek will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to throw out the honorary first pitch at tonight’s Pittsburgh Pirates game versus the St. Louis Cardinals.

    Fiolek was selected for the special occasion and will take part on behalf of Honda Red Bull Racing and the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship.

    On the eve of the final round of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Steel City, the pre-event Monster Energy Fan Fest will provide motocross fans in Western Pennsylvania a unique chance to get a rare sneak peek of the following day’s racing action, as well as the chance to meet many of the stars of the series in a laid back and open setting.

    Riders and teams who will take part in the event include JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha along with team riders Cody Cooper and Christian Craig as well as Factory Yamaha and the series’ most recent winner Matt Goerke.

    In a season highlighted by first-time winners, Factory Yamaha’s Matt Goerke, of Lake Helen, Fla., captured an upset victory in New England to become the sixth rider in 2009 to win for the first time in the 450 Class. Rain greeted the riders at Moto-X 338 on Saturday at the penultimate round of the 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship as consistent, light showers fell throughout the day.
