Cyril Despres News

Besides new bike news at the EICMA in Milan, there was some exciting news for KTM racing fans.

Cyril Despres, who scored his first outright victory in Dakar in January 2005 aboard a KTM, has renewed his contract with the Austrian motorcycle company.

The Frenchman was on the EICMA stage together with Head of KTM Motorsports’ Pit Beirer when the announcement was made. Speaking of his first win with KTM, Despres says the motorcycle company “will remain engraved in my memory forever.”

Besides the 2005 Dakar, Despres also won the famed rally aboard a KTM in 2007 and 2008. Despres also has an impressive history in other world class rallies associated with the World Rally Championship and won the notorious Red Bull Hare Scramble at the Erzberg Rodeo in 2002 and 2003.

KTM reports that Marc Coma also renewed his contract with KTM in the late summer and Despres’s signature again secures the world’s two best riders for KTM.
