British Customs Cafe Racer Seat for Triumph Bonneville, Scrambler & Thruxton
British Customs, America’s leading designer and manufacturer of performance parts and accessories for new Triumph motorcycles, today introduced the Café Racer Seat and LED Lucas Style Tail Lamp kit, which gives the iconic brand’s Bonneville, Scrambler and Thruxton motorcycles a stunning visual transformation that takes them back to gritty, ’50s-era English roadside cafés.
It sports a cool, classic, fender-less look, but great form didn’t negate function in British Customs’ design studio. Actually, the hump-backed saddle remedies comfort issues with the Bonneville and Scrambler’s flat-as-a-board benches, as well as the Thruxton’s banana-shaped seat.
The ‘Racer saddle is built from modern materials engineered using today’s technology. Retaining the original seat height, its foam padding is precisely sculpted to eliminate the stockers’ tendency to slide riders forward and splay their legs wide.
Up front, British Customs’ seat is narrower than stock, but the same width as original at the rear. The foam has a patented gel technology that evenly distributes riders’ weight across its entire surface area, minimizing painful hot spots that limit all-day café-to-café comfort. The seat’s final styling cue is its artfully trimmed sides, which expose a bit of the bikes’ frames, giving them a more elemental look.
At the saddle’s very foundation is a seat pan made from hand-laid, marine-grade fiberglass. The molds that form them are hand-polished and pre-finished with an epoxy-based gel coat that protects bases from the elements and gives a slick appearance.
Wrapping the foam is a synthetic leather cover that features a tuck-and-roll design integrated with a classic café’ hump that is approximately 12 inches wide, climbs 6-1/2 inches at its tallest point and tapers down to 3 inches right before the taillight. Not only does this flowing backstop define the seat’s style, it offers just the right amount of lumbar support.
Integrating perfectly with the Café seat is the kit’s LED version of British Customs’ Lucas Style Tail Lamp. Available with a red or clear lens, it is connected to a plug-and-play harness with quick-release connector for easy removal.
In addition to being sold as a kit, the seat and taillight can be purchased individually.
Because the saddle is designed to perch above the frame rails without a rear fender, it’s supplied with a British Customs Fender Under Plate to prevent debris and road grime from entering the battery compartment. License plates can be mounted on any of BC’s three flat or curved license plate holders: A standard under-seat version; the others side-mounted to the axle or shocks.
Founded in 2004, British Customs created today’s booming aftermarket for these new-generation Modern Classics by recognizing tremendous demand for performance, cosmetic and handling upgrades long before they existed. It also has a large array of parts for Triumph’s cutting-edge Triples, including the entire lineup of adventurers, cruisers, roadsters, supersports and tourers.
Based in Gardena, Calif., this trend-setting company doesn’t build custom motorcycles. It gives independent, do-it-yourselfers with any level of mechanical skills the ability to customize their bikes and lives with bolt-on parts engineered for an exact fit and style without modification, using common tools.
