As usual at Catalunya MotoGP, the pilots endured a mix of wet and dry conditions. Under these circumstances, Ducati Team’s Valentino Rossi struggled with the proper setup on the GP11, though he fought hard for a fifth-place finish in Round 5 of the 2011 MotoGP Championship.
On the second day of MotoGP pre-season testing in Malaysia, Valentino Rossi opted out due to flu symptoms.
The nine-time World Champion Rossi was weak due to a fever and a cold when he arrived at Sepang International Circuit Wednesday morning. The Italian consulted with the medical staff, and underwent anti-flu treatment at the Clinica Mobile.
With an exceptionally close situation at the top of the FIM MotoGP World Championship standings, the premier class riders could be forgiven for focusing exclusively on their immediate rivals. However, Mugello is a special track for the 800cc competitors and merits added attention from them, as they explained on Thursday ahead of the Gran Premio d’Italia Alice.
The pre-event press conference for the Italian round brought five riders out of the pleasant sun present at the track and inside to face the gathered media.
The MotoGP paddock reconvenes in southern Spain for the third round of the 2009 World Championship, the Gran Premio bwin.com de España, just a week on from their second outing of the year. The first European round, and one of the most well-attended events on the calendar, the riders have points to win and points to prove at the Circuito de Jerez.
