Mat Mladin race 2 interview VIR

Mat Mladin won his seventh AMA Superbike Championship with two races remaining in the series at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in Alton, Virginia, on Sunday afternoon. Mladin finished second in Saturday’s race and then clinched the title when he finished ninth in Sunday’s race at the double-header Superbike weekend. Mladin’s career with Suzuki has spanned 13 racing seasons and in that time the Australian’s record-setting ways have been remarkable.

Mat Mladin racing retirement letter to fans…

After so many great years of racing in the USA, I will retire from AMA racing at the end of the 2009 racing season in New Jersey.

My career has been long and above and beyond my wildest expectations. I won my first national championship on dirt bikes back in 1981 (28 years ago) and have had an amazing career ever since.

If I had my time again, I would not change a single decision I have made, in life or in racing.

I would like to thank my team for their constant hard work. Without these guys, the 80+ race wins and multiple championships would not have been possible.

Just in from Mat Mladin regarding Topeka AMA

Due to safety concerns I will not compete in this weekend’s round of the AMA Superbike championship in Topeka.

It is important to note that Topeka is a newly sanctioned round on the championship schedule. It is also important to note that Topeka has made changes to the track, but unfortunately, as is the case too many times, the track approval process was flawed and we arrived at a facility that was not ready for our caliber of competition.

AMA Superbike race 1 winner interviews Road America

In a cool and rainy day at Road America, Mat Mladin continued to roll in AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike presented by Parts Unlimited.

Despite putting the No. 7 Rockstar/Makita/Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 on pole Friday, Mladin had to overcome a few challenges to win today. First, he encountered a clutch problem that prevented him from participating in the 10-minute warm up just prior to the race. Because of that and the fact that track conditions were less than ideal, Mladin dropped back a few positions at the start.

Pegram Ducati talks Superbike race 1 at Infineon

At Ducati North America’s home race , rider Larry Pegram of Team Foremost Pegram Racing put in a calculated ride to bring his Ducati 1098 R Superbike home third.

When the flag dropped on race one of the weekend’s doubleheader, the ambient temperature was 100 degrees- with a track temperature of 124. Despite the heat the Superbike grid got off to a smooth start with Pegram retaining his fifth on the grid position. The surprise of the day was Suzuki rider Mat Mladin’s lack of pace, which Pegram and the other riders immediately sought to capitalize on.

AMA Pro Racing Issues Penalties at Auto Club Speedway.

AMA Pro Road Racing rider Jamie Hacking has been suspended indefinitely following this weekend’s event at Auto Club Speedway for conduct detrimental to the sport of professional motorcycle racing. The culminating incident occurred in the Auto Club Speedway media center following post-race interviews on Sunday where Hacking used a string of profane language while exiting the press interview area.
