Following the final race of the season in Valencia three weeks ago, LCR Honda MotoGP racer Randy de Puniet decided to have a brief surgical intervention to remove the screws from his ankle last Friday. The Frenchman was motocross training to maintain his fitness over the summer break when he suffered a crash and fractured his left ankle. Despite the pain De Puniet had some hard rehabilitation to end the season and, before returning to the track next year, the 28-year-old will now continue the rehabilitation by having the screws taken out.

The MotoGP paddock in Le Mans on Thursday bore stark contrast to the Sunday of the Spanish round at Jerez two weeks previous, with a quiet, relaxed atmosphere and clouds hovering above the historic French track.

Randy de Puniet set himself up for a promising home race at Le Mans with a fantastic fourth in Jerez on Sunday, following on from a qualifying session in which he placed fifth on the grid. The Frenchman was delighted the result, which also brought a big smile to the face of his LCR Honda Team Principal, Lucio Cecchinello.
"We’re very happy with Randy’s consistency at the moment. He’s really starting to discover the potential of this new bike," said the Italian of his MotoGP rider, who had hailed the satellite Honda as "the best bike that I have ever ridden."
