Nevers Magny Cours Circuit (France), Sunday 4th October 2009 – a second place finish in today’s race was enough for Xavier Simeon to take the 2009 title on board his Ducati 1198. The Ducati Xerox Junior Team thus lifts the Superstock 1000 FIM CUP championship trophy for the third consecutive year, following on from those achieved by Niccolò Canepa in 2007 and by Brendan Roberts in 2008. Daniele Beretta, after a good recovery, closed the race in tenth place.
Xavier Simeon’s weekend finished in the best possible way for him and his team.
The man setting the best lap of the opening MotoGP practice session of the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix was Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa, who went round the 4.216km track in 1’51.507s in wet conditions.
With the riders lapping more than ten seconds off the sort of pace that would be expected on a dry track, it was Pedrosa who adapted best to the conditions on his factory RC212V as he produced his best time on the sixth of just 16 laps.
Valentino Rossi added a third pole position to an enviable haul from 2009 at Sachsenring on Saturday, coming out on top in a drenched qualifying session at the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.
Rossi’s last gasp 1’32.520 lap was not only enough to head the timesheet by over six-tenths of a second, but it was also sufficient to give him a first ever MotoGP pole at the German track.
