    For the first time in the 2011 AMA Superbike series, someone other than Team Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes will start from the pole position.

    The reigning AMA Superbike Champion was beat at Mid-Ohio qualifying by his main rival, Blake Young. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000 pilot posted a 1:25.025, which was 0.336 of a second quicker than Hayes.

    Leading the AMA SBK points battle is Team Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes with 235. But he’s not quickly throttling away with the championship; only two points behind is Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Blake Young.

Saturday’s fourth annual 8 Hours At Daytona will close the 2009 AMA Pro SunTrust Moto-GT season while Sunday will be highlighted by the AMA Pro SuperSport presented by Shoei National Championship Shootout sprint race at high noon.

    The 8 Hour race starts at 1 p.m.

    Josh Day scored ESP/ Venemotos Yamaha’s third successive AMA Pro Racing victory at the Big Kahuna Nationals in Virginia. The ESP/ Venemotos Yamaha team arrived at VIR still riding a wave of momentum from their first two victories at the previous AMA rounds in Mid-Ohio and Topeka. The new front end setting that the ESP crew found at Mid-Ohio continued to work for Day at VIR. The feeling from the front end allowed Josh to quickly lower his lap times, he was the first competitor into the 1:29’s, while running a comfortable pace.
