When Round 11 of the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Flat Track Championship visits Lake Odessa, Michigan’s I-96 Speedway July 23, it’ll do more than thrill crowds with some of the fastest, tightest racing in the world; it’ll serve as the grand finale of the Michigan Festival of Speed.

The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Factory Team will have three-time champion rider Kenny Coolbeth in the saddle to open the 2011 Grand National Twins portion of the AMA Pro Harley-Davidson Insurance Flat Track Championship on May 22 at the historic Springfield Mile in Springfield, Ill.
Blue Springs Harley-Davidson/Screamin’ Eagle rider Jared Mees secured his first AMA Grand National Twins championship by placing fifth in the final race of the season on the 5/8-mile dirt oval at the Pomona Fairplex. K&K Motorcycle Supply rider Henry Wiles won the race on a Harley-Davidson XR-750.

After a seven week hiatus, the AMA Pro Grand National Twins Championship wrapped up the 2009 season before a packed house at the LA County Fairgrounds. With the points title still up for grabs, Jared Mees unloaded his No. 21 Blue Springs Screamin’ Eagle Harley-Davidson / Rogers Lake Racing backed XR-750 with a 15 point lead over defending three-time Grand National Champion Kenny Coolbeth and his No. 1 Harley-Davidson Factory mount.

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports that Shock Doctor/KTM’s Cory Buttrick took home the top off-road honors at the inaugural AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, which took place July 24-26 as part of AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days in Lexington, Ohio, while Paul Germain emerged as the weekend’s top track-racing competitor.
Buttrick, from Logan, Ohio, was crowned the AMA Off-Road Vintage Grand National Champion, while Germain, from Winnipeg, Canada, earned the AMA Track Racing Vintage Grand National Championship.
The 2009 AMA Pro Grand National Flat Track championship stepped into the spotlight this past Memorial Day weekend with the Illinois Motorcycle Dealers Association’s Springfield Mile. More than 240 bikes in the Grand National and Pro Singles divisions and a huge crowd descended on the Illinois State Fairgrounds for one of the sport’s biggest race weekends of the year.
