Ransom Archangel: Bespoke Brilliance with 185 Horsepower

Ransom knows how to present Archangel. It is parked on the polished floor of a bright, airy room with soft daylight filtering through sheer curtains. The Ransom Archangel is clearly at home in a gallery. Whether it belongs on a public road is between the owner and your local DMV.

W. Robert Ransom started his company in 2004 with a simple idea: motorcycles should be as thoughtfully made as fine furniture or sculpture.  Archangel, part of the brand’s Valiance Collection, is exactly that kind of piece, with countless components shaped by an artisan.

Ransom Archangel: custom motorcycle

The hand-sculpted, cantilevered aluminum bodywork is not stamped or pressed. Instead, it is the result of sheet stock being hammered and shaped by an artisan. Further examination reveals that its shape invites your eye to follow it from front to rear without interruption. Yes, there’s a headlight inside for those who long for a license plate for Archangel. It is hidden inside an arc from the upper triple clamp to the front fender, so nothing breaks the clean silhouette.

Then there’s the chassis. Ransom hand-fabricated the entire frame from 4130 chromoly steel. Weighing less than 500 pounds, ready to rumble, and sporting a 62-inch wheelbase, Archangel is low and planted, yet light enough to be manageable.

The single-sided swingarm does double duty as the reservoir for Archangel’s air suspension. With the push of a button, you get a full 4.5 inches of ride-height adjustment. The technology is straight out of MotoGP: drop the chassis for a more planted feel in a straight line, or raise it for extra cornering clearance.

At rest, there’s a custom centerstand that pivots forward so the bike sits perfectly upright, letting anyone nearby walk all the way around and take in both sides if the Ransom Archangel at an optimum angle.

Settle into the seat, 29.5 inches high at standard ride height, and reach for the grips. The internal throttle keeps the control area clean, while the billet-aluminum grips with rubber inserts give you a direct, connected feel of the bike and the road.

The 18-inch wheels are forged aluminum. The rear rim is 10.5 inches wide, with a bodacious 300/35 Avon AV72 Cobra mounted. In front, a relatively modest 120/70 Avon Storm 2 Ultra leads the way. A single Galfer 320mm wave rotor works with a radially mounted four-piston caliper fed by a stainless-steel brake line. Should you need more stopping power, a 250mm rear disc has its rotation modulated by a two-piston Brembo caliper.

At the heart of it all is a Japanese-made, one-liter liquid-cooled inline-four that produces 185 horsepower while tuned for midrange muscle. Screened velocity stacks facing up and at 45 degrees rearward require you to ride in a clean-air environment. After running through the six-speed transmission, power is sent to the rear wheel via a nickel-plated EK WX-ring 525 chain.

The exhaust system features polished, surgical-grade 304 stainless-steel headers leading into a glass-packed titanium muffler. Reputedly, Archangel’s voice is deep and satisfying, rather than being loud for the sake of drawing attention.

For anyone who appreciates life’s finer things and understands that elite custom motorcycles are as much about how they’re made as how they ride, the Ransom Archangel is a natural fit. It’s a personal expression in aluminum, steel, and titanium, shaped by hand and finished with real thought. It’s an exclusive custom motorcycle that quietly rewards anyone who values craftsmanship, presence, and the simple joy of riding something made with care.

W. Robert Ransom and Archangel

Should you want W. Robert Ransom to create a motorcycle exclusively for you, he provides that service. A $20,000 private consultation fee does not guarantee that he will work with you. Should Ransom choose to build you a motorcycle, you will collaborate with him, understanding that he will retain creative control over the final design. Do not be in a rush, as perfection takes time; there is no set completion date.
