Three years ago, Triumph acquired Oset, the giant of electric dirt bikes for kids. Now, Triumph is integrating Oset into its lineup with Triumph branding and expanding the appeal of these youth motorcycles.

“The TXP range represents an exciting new chapter for Triumph,” explains Triumph Motorcycles CEO Nick Bloor. “Since bringing Oset into the Triumph family, we’ve blended our expertise to develop a range that’s not only technically advanced but also rooted in real-world riding experience. By combining our off-road race-winning engineering experience with OSET’s proven electric trials expertise, we have created a product line that can empower the next generation of riders.”

Although there will be four Triumph TXPs in some markets, the United States will initially be limited to the TXP-12 and the TXP-15, the smallest bikes in the lineup. Let’s look at each one.

Triumph TXP-12

  • The steel-framed TXP-12 weighs 50 pounds and is sized for riders from 3 to 5 years old. In addition to a two-position seat height—14.2 and 17.5 inches—the grips and hand controls are appropriately sized. The maximum rider weight is 54 pounds.

  • Trials pattern tires are mounted on 12-inch rims. The wheelbase is 26.6 inches, and there’s six inches of ground clearance. The bicycle-style fork has 2.0 inches of travel, while the rear wheel travel is 2.4 inches, with spring-preload adjustment at both ends. Cable-actuated calipers work on a single 160mm disc on each wheel.

  • The 600-watt motor is powered by a 43-volt battery. The lithium-ion battery is rated for 10 amp-hours, with adjustable power output, top speed, and throttle response. Run time is up to three hours on a full charge.

  • The motor has several safety features. The ignition is PIN-protected, allowing parents to have complete control over its use. There’s a two-step starting system to make sure everyone knows the motor is ready to go. Should the rider fall off, a lanyard kill switch shuts down the power. Also, the final chain drive is fully enclosed to avoid entanglements.

  • The Triumph TXP-12 can be configured for trials or trail use. Set up for trials, the TXP-12 has no seat, and the riding is done standing up. Put on the included seat and the bike is ready for trail riding.
  • The list price of the Triumph TXP-12 is $1695. Triumph is promising delivery by Christmas if you order early.

Triumph TXP-16

  • Aimed at riders aged 5 to 7 and weighing less than 72 pounds, the Triumph TXP-16 has a 765-watt motor. It uses a 43-volt, 10-amp-hour lithium-ion battery, which is the same as the TXP-12, so the runtime will be shorter under the same conditions. Top speed is 19 mph.

  • For increased off-road capability, the TXP-16 has 16-inch rims. The front tire is 2.5 inches wide, with the rear 2.8 inches wide—both are the trials-style block pattern.
  • The suspension offers 3.2 inches of travel in the front and 3.5 inches out back. Spring-preload is the only adjustment. The single-shock rear suspension is matched to a bicycle-style fork.

  • The Triumph TXP-16 has the same safety features as its little brother.

  • The seat height is 17.7 inches in the Trails mode and 22.6 inches with the Xplore seat installed. The TXP-16 weighs 59 pounds, with the seat adding another 1.3 pounds. Ground clearance is a generous nine inches.
  • Would-be Santas will want to know that ordering a Triumph TXP-16 ensures delivery before it’s time to slide down the chimney. The TXP-16 has a list price of $2295.
