2014 Star Bolt and Bolt R-Spec Motorcycles Preview

Described as a pair of “performance bobber” cruiser motorcycles, Star has introduced the Bolt and Bolt R-Spec as early 2014 models.

Using Star’s existing 942cc (58 cubic inch) air-cooled, slightly oversquare, SOHC, V-twin motor, the Bolt bobbers have an all-new double-cradle chassis for aggressive urban riding. A solo seat gives each Bolt a serious rider-focused appearance.

Both versions of the 2014 Star Bolt are fuel-injected, with twin shocks (piggyback reservoirs on the R-Spec), 5-speed transmission, 298mm wave discs, a 16”/19” tire combination, a seat height of 27.2 inches, wheelbase of under 62 inches, and claimed wet weight of 540 pounds – perfect for working your way though in-town traffic.

A final belt drive, stainless steel air filter cover, and steel fenders make customization an easy task, though the Bolt R-spec takes a lead on that with it gold-accents shocks and textured faux-suede seat with colored stitching.

Star has focused the tuning of the Bolt engine for low-rpm and midrange torque, another commitment to down-and-dirty performance on city streets. A rubber-damped clutch means smooth engagement and less fatigue. The bike is narrow and, although we did not ride it, the ergonomics were friendly at a stop and the bike feels agile. Star estimates that the Bolt will get over 150 miles out of its 3.2-gallon fuel tank.

Factory-fresh Star Custom Accessories will further the ability of a buyer to personalize the Bolt. Urban riders can add taller bars and a spring seat, will others can turn the 2014 Star Bolt into a feisty weekend tourer with a bikini fairing, leather saddlebags, passenger seat kit, and backrest.

The 2014 Star Bolt will be available in two color options – Raven and Pearl White – and retails for $7990. The Bolt R-Spec can be had in Matte Grey and Camo Green and has a MSRP of $8290. The standard version hits the showrooms in April, while you will have to wait for July to snag a copy of the 2014 Star Bolt R-Spec.
