2012 AMA Supercross Preview

For AMA Supercross fans, CBS Sports is providing the ultimate break from the holidays on Christmas Day – a preview of the upcoming 2012 season.

The AMA Supercross 2012 Preview Show will air at 2 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, Dec. 25, and highlight the upcoming FIM championship that begins Jan. 7 at Angel Stadium, Anaheim, Calif.

The SX grid will feature the highest level of talent in 2012, including AMA Supercross Champions James Stewart, Ryan Dungey, Chad Reed and last year’s title-holder Ryan Villopoto, all who race aboard different makes.

All eyes will be on Dungey in 2012, as he debuts on the Red Bull KTM SX-F 450; this is a huge change for Dungey, who competed on a Suzuki since 2006, taking both the AMA Supercross and Motocross titles in 2010.

But Dungey will have many challenges from Villopoto, who will once again compete on the Monster Energy Kawasaki KX450F, Reed aboard the privately-funded TwoTwo Motorsports Honda CRF450, and Stewart aboard the JGRMX Yamaha YZ450F.

We’ve been talking excitedly for the past few weeks about the upcoming Biketoberfest rally in Daytona Beach, Florida on October 16th through the 19th. So this episode we take a few minutes to chat with Lori Campbell-Baker, Brian Bentley, and Andrew Booth, from the Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “I’m no superhero” says Vanessa Ruck aka “The Girl on a Bike”, who is our guest for this episode. But… actually, I think she’s wrong, I’d say she is every bit a superhero. Teejay chats with Vanessa about that time she took on one of the most difficult and prestigious off-road races in the history of Motorsports: the original and real Dakar Rally; now known as The Africa Eco Race. This is the legendary desert race which covers 13 days and 6,000 kilometers, sometimes in over 120-degree heat. It runs from Monaco, Europe, through Morocco, Western Sahara, and Mauritania, eventually to Dakar in Senegal, West Africa. This is the race where 54% of the entrants didn’t finish; and yet Vanessa on her trusty KTM became the first British female—and only the second female ever—to actually finish this crazy test of human endurance and spirit.
