Last weekend, nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi participated in the Monza Rally Show in Italy, the MotoGP rider piloting four wheels instead of the usual two on the Ducati.

Regardless if the action was on four wheels, the 32-year-old Italian wasn’t going to settle for bad results; VR46 worked diligently with the Monster Energy team to dial in the Ford Fiesta RS WRC during the classic three-day, nine-stage event.

And his hard worked paid off; out of 97 entries, Rossi finished a very impressive second behind eight-time World Rally Champion, Sebastien Loeb. And the car was extra special this year, since it donned a tribute to Rossi’s fallen MotoGP friend, “Super Sic” Marco Simoncelli, who passed after a crash at Sepang.

Speaking of the race, Monster Energy says: “The MotoGP GOAT (Rossi) doesn’t get a load of time to throw a rally car round with a co-driver barking out calls but let’s face it, he’s got a knack of being super fast on in any kind of race format. Over the course of the weekend, Valentino came a close second (in two race formats) to multiple WRC champ Seb Loeb and even beat the ace in the two stages he topped. Behind him sat last year’s winner Dindo Capello and WRC great Dani Sordo.”

The attached video highlights the feats of VR46 and his Monster Energy during the 2011 Monza Rally Show near Milan, Italy.
