Doohan: A Debut at Silverstone MotoGP

2011 MotoGP

In 1997, Mick Doohan put on one of the most impressive performances in MotoGP history; the Australian took 13 of 15 rounds, adding to his already iconic motorcycle racing status.

Mention Doohan and passionate fans of Grand Prix motorcycle racing immediately has a mental image. And during Round 6 of the 2011 MotoGP Championship at Silverstone, the legend Doohan will be more than a mental image; he’ll be at the event, greeting fans.

Doohan, who five consecutive World Championships in the 500cc era of MotoGP (1994-1998), will be at the AirAsia British Grand Prix June 10-12, signing autographs and participating in a Q&A session.

The Australian, who will be making his debut appearance at Silverstone, will also be featured on the main stage during both days of the Silverstone MotoGP.

Mick Doohan says: “I plan to hop over to Silverstone for the MotoGP race right after the (Isle of Man) TT to catch up with some old mates and meet some of the race fans. I’ve never visited the place before and with all the new work they’ve been doing to the track and the pits it all looks pretty cool.”

Before visiting Silverstone MotoGP, Doohan will complete a lap of the course alongside Ian Hutchinson – who won all five solo TT races in 2010 – on June 8. Doohan will ride a Honda Fireblade during the Arai parade lap.
