Yamaha Motor Corp., USA, has donated a UMAX Rally 2+2 utility golf car to the Burbank Police Department’s motorcycle training unit. The donation, facilitated through Yamaha’s Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI), was arranged with the help of Jay Leno. Leno lives in Burbank, and the world-famous Jay Leno’s Garage is in Burbank.
“As a friend and supporter of the Burbank PD, I heard they needed a reliable support vehicle for their training grounds,” Leno explained at the event, “and I knew Yamaha would be the perfect partner. Leno hosted the presentation at his Jay Leno’s Garage, featured on his popular YouTube series.
“The Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative is an incredible program that helps keep off-road recreation sustainable and safe for future generations,” Leno continued.
The Burbank Police Department holds monthly training sessions to keep its motorcycle officers’ riding skills sharp. The donated Yamaha vehicle will assist with course setup, instruction, and operations at the department’s training facility
“We’re extremely thankful for Yamaha’s generous support and commitment to rider safety,” said Burbank Chief of Police Rafael Quintero. “Whether it’s on the highway or on a trail, responsible riding starts with training and preparation, and we’re proud to set that example.”

Yamaha’s Outdoor Access Initiative started in 2008 and is a leading program in the powersports industry, focused on protecting and improving access to public land for motorized and outdoor recreation. It has provided over $7 million to more than 535 projects across the U.S.

“While most OAI grants fund trail building, maintenance, and conservation efforts, we also recognize that access can be threatened by unsafe or irresponsible behavior,” Yamaha Motorsports Marketing Director Steve Nessl said. “That’s why we’re proud to support the Burbank PD’s training efforts. It’s a win for the community and for rider education.”
Now, if we can just get Burbank to open up an OHV park in the Verdugo Hills within its city limits, we will have something to really celebrate.
