It’s one more round before the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series summer break, with the Washougal National taking the honors. The 450MX class has settled down, making getting a good score in RMFantasyMX.com leagues easier than ever. Still, we always want to get the highest score, so let’s see what we’ve got for the 2024 Washougal motocross fantasy picks.
- It’s impossible to argue against Chase Sexton to win. He has a five-moto win streak, and there’s little reason to think he won’t take the overall at Washougal MX Park.
- Just as Sexton has a lock to win, Hunter Lawrence is a prohibitive favorite for P2. Lawrence has finished in P2 or within one position of P2 in 12 of the 14 motos this year, including eight P2 finishes. He’s P2!
- Justin Cooper has more overall podiums than anyone lining up at Washougal, other than Sexton and Lawerence. Cooper was P3 overall again last week at the Spring Creek National, and he has five P3 moto finishes—more than any other rider. Cooper gets the P3 nod.
- Aaron Plessinger is a solid P4 choice. Plessinger has five top-five overalls, but only two overall podiums in seven rounds. Plessinger has more overall top fives than any rider I haven’t previously mentioned that will be lining up at Washougal. So, it’s P4 for Plessinger.
- Jason Anderson doesn’t have much competition for P5. Again, other than riders I’ve already picked, of those who will be racing at Washougal, there’s only one rider lining up who has been in the top five this year—Dylan Ferrandis. Anderson seems to have found some consistency, having gone 5-3-4-4 in the last four motos, so he’s the P5 guy.
- If you want to take some chances, here is your best play. Plessinger is a reasonable choice for P3 or P5. Adjust Cooper down one or Anderson up one, as applicable.
- With the top five fairly locked in, the Wild Card takes on extra importance. Getting the Wild Card can be the difference between a good week and a great one. The Washougal National Wild Card is P11, which means lots of guessing and hoping. Riders with a P11 moto finish include Freddie Norén (three times), Grant Harlan (three times), Dean Wilson, Marshal Weltin, Christian Craig, Phil Nicoletti, Alvin Östlund, Justin Barcia, Romain Pape, and Derek Kelly. Overall P11 finishers include Grant Harlan (four times), Freddie Norén (two times), Malcolm Stewart, and Shane McElrath. Crunching those numbers is easy—Harlan is the best pick, followed by Norén.
- Check on Saturday morning to make sure your pick was able to make it to the race due to the CrowdStrike fiasco that has crippled airline travel.
