Earlier this month, Bridgestone reported it would withdraw its role of MotoGP Official Tire Supplier for the premier class at the conclusion of the 2015 season.

Bridgestone provided spec tires for MotoGP since 2009.

Once this news was reported, Dorna – the promoter of MotoGP – began taking applications from tire manufacturers.

And on Friday, Dorna announced that the French-based Michelin will become the Official Tire Supplier of MotoGP beginning in 2016.

Michelin has “clearly proven its technical abilities to respond to the needs of a demanding Grand Prix racing schedule.”

Speaking of the agreement, Dorna says “Interested tire manufacturers were able to request the technical specifications from Dorna’s Managing Director Javier Alonso, with three potential tire suppliers initially expressing an interest – before Michelin alone made a formal tender before the May 22 deadline.”

Now, the commercial agreement will be processed.
