Besides a few minor updates in 2007, the Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 “sport enduro touring” motorcycle remained unchanged since its introduction in 2002.

But this all changes for the 2014 V-Strom 1000 (DL was dropped from the name in 2012). The bike was completely redesigned from bottom up, receiving a larger 1037cc engine, ABS, fully-adjustable 43mm KYB inverted forks, and Traction Control – a first for any Suzuki motorcycle.

Suzuki recently held its world press launch in Almeria, Spain, where 60 journalists got some initial testing on the new V-Strom. Following the December launch, Suzuki released the attached video.

In the video, Suzuki’s Naoki Hirooka says the company’s focus was getting the power/weight ratio directly in the middle of the 1200cc and 650cc classes of adventure motorcycles.  This occurred, helping Suzuki create a platform that caters to both riders of the larger and smaller adventure bikes.

Much was said about the 2014 V-Strom 1000 during this initial launch, which looked to occur mostly on paved roads. Check it out above.
