Aprilia Tuono RSV “Clarkie” | Motorcycle Preview

Aprilia Clarkie

Despite its menacing looks and warp-speed potential, the Aprilia “Clarkie” is actually a comfortable motorcycle with balanced handling, linear power and perfect brakes that quickly inspire the rider to confidence. Builder Aaron Clarke started with Aprilia’s superb Tuono platform and carefully selected parts from the European Motorcycle Accessories catalog.

Displacement was increased to 1,060cc and Evoluzione Cyclesports added larger throttle bodies, airbox and Arrow titanium mufflers. Scuderia West revalved the Showa forks and added an Ohlins rear shock. With Michelin tires on PVM wheels, handling is superbly quick but neutral and the PVM monoblock brakes are beautifully smooth and controlled.

The combination of STM slipper clutch and Translogic Quickshift were a revelation. When downshifting, the clutch can be dumped without fear of the rear wheel hopping and losing control. Used with the Quickshift, riding fast becomes easier as gearchanges become quick and seamless.

AMA and World Champion Doug Polen remarked with a grin after handing over the Clarkie: “Every garage should have one.” An excellent place to start is with the EMA-USA catalog and a call to Aaron Clarke.
