Buell Rider Wins Championship
After 19 years of futility, Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Hector Arana finally won his first NHRA national event last year when he claimed the race trophy in Norwalk, Ohio. The Puerto Rican native said at the time that life simply couldn’t get any better.
Sunday at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., the 51-year-old found a way to top that feat, clinching his first Full Throttle Championship by riding his powerful Lucas Oil Buell V-Twin to the top of the drag racing world.
Harley-Davidson Motor Company has extended both its official program with NHRA and its title sponsorship of the NHRA Harley-Davidson Sportsman Motorcycle Series through the 2012 season. Harley-Davidson, the only major U.S.-based manufacturer of motorcycles, became the official motorcycle of NHRA and title sponsor of the popular NHRA Harley-Davidson Sportsman Motorcycle Series in 2006.
"When we first signed this deal three years ago, it was the first of its kind for Harley-Davidson," said Gary Darcy, senior vice president of sales and marketing, NHRA.
Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec won his third NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle event of the season, defeating his Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines teammate, Andrew Hines, in an all-Harley-Davidson final at the Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway. It was the second-consecutive NHRA event to feature both Screamin’ Eagle V-Rods in the final round of eliminations – Hines won when the pair faced off on June 28 in Norwalk, Ohio.
