The new 2026 Yamaha NMax 155 Tech Max features a new fully automatic transmission for its urban scooter that offers more practical performance. Although it’s still a CVT (continuously variable transmission), the transmission is electronically controlled, rather than relying on a pulley system.
Called the Yamaha Electric Continuously Variable Transmission (YECVT), the system allows for two riding modes. The Sport mode enhances acceleration, while the Town mode smooths out the experience and decreases fuel consumption. The YECVT’s DC motor also allows for a Downshift function that mimics downshifting a traditional gearbox.
The motor uses Yamaha’s proprietary Blue Core technology to meet Euro5+ emissions standards and reduce fuel consumption to 98 mpg. The engine features variable valve actuation, and the 155cc motor driving the 2026 Yamaha NMax 155 Tech Max enjoys a new crankcase, crankshaft, hydraulic cam chain tensioner, oil pump, air cleaner, and exhaust. The engine also automatically turns off at red lights to conserve fuel, and restarts when the rider twists the throttle with the brakes off.
Power production is just short of 15 horsepower at 8000 rpm, and just over 10 lb-ft of torque at 6500 rpm.
The 298-pound 2026 Yamaha NMax 155 Tech Max features suspension travel of just under four inches at each end, IRC SS tires on 13-inch aluminum wheels, ABS-enhanced 230mm disc brakes with hydraulic calipers on each wheel, keyless operation, LED lighting, a USB-C charging port in a front pocket, and room for helmet storage under the seat.
Riders are greeted by a two-piece LCD and 4.2-inch TFT dash that can be paired with your smartphone via the free Yamaha MyRide app. In addition to the usual features, the app adds Garmin Navigation to the mix, along with data acquisition and social interaction.
We don’t have word of an impending importation of the 2026 Yamaha NMax 155 Tech Max into the United States. It will go on sale after the first of the new year, with the price yet to be determined. The scooter will be available in your choice of Crystal Graphite and Midnight Black.
