Streets of Willow Springs Upgrades Revealed: Safety and Chicanes

The Streets of Willow Springs Ugrades with new chicanes

Willow Springs International Raceway has completed major renovations to its 1.8-mile Streets of Willow Springs road course and 0.625-mile kart track, with upgrades aimed at improving safety and performance for riders. The changes mark the first significant updates since CrossHarbor Capital Partners and Singer Vehicle Design purchased the facility in April.

Streets of Willow Springs Upgrades Revealed

The Streets of Willow Springs and the kart track are fully repaved. New internal and external curbs have been installed, along with graded gravel and expanded runoff areas around the track perimeters. The Streets of Willow Springs layout includes three new chicanes to extend the course and reduce speeds in key sections for added safety. Both circuits feature new striping and logos in a green and off-white color scheme. Additional safety measures, including tire barriers, Armco, and air fencing, are being installed and expected to be completed this fall.

Expect the repaved surfaces and new chicanes on the Streets of Willow Springs to require adjustments to cornering and braking strategies, particularly in technical sections. The kart track’s smoother asphalt and enhanced safety features are intended to offer a safer environment for younger or less experienced supermoto riders and kart drivers.

The upgrades aim to modernize the 70-year-old raceway, known for its challenging layouts and high-speed straights, while maintaining public access for riders of all skill levels. The ownership group, which includes consultants like former Formula 1 driver Alex Wurz and Sonoma Raceway’s management team, plans further improvements to facilities and track operations. A public event, Willow Springs Reimagined, is scheduled for October 11 to showcase the renovated tracks.

Willow Springs International Raceway is the oldest permanent road course in the U.S. and is expected to continue to host public and private events, including motorcycle track days and racing. The new owners have committed to preserving the raceway’s history while upgrading its infrastructure to meet modern standards.
