2012 Aprilia Scooter

Aprilia, the Italian company known for its race-winning machines such as the RSV-4 that took the 2010 World Superbike Championship, unveiled its newest creation to the motorcycle industry last fall at the EICMA in Milan.

But it wasn’t a high-horsepower superbike ready to take on circuit all over the world. Rather, it was a high-horsepower scooter ready to add some much-needed performance to that particular market.

This scooter was the Aprilia SRV 850 Maxi-scooter. And with 76 horsepower, the SRV is currently the most powerful scooter on the market.

The Piaggio-owned Aprilia says the “SRV 850 redefines the limits of the scooter world: power, balance, a sports spirit and design, all wrapped up in this new scooter, reminiscent of the technical, performance and aesthetic standards of Aprilia’s superbikes.”

This power arrives from an 850cc, 90-degree V-twin with electronic fuel injection, with stopping power arriving from 300mm Brembo brakes. And styling is pure Aprilia, with roots stemming back to the 2007 Gilera GP 800, which was then the most powerful scooter offered.
