We set the motorcycle up a little stiff, hoping the track would dry out, but it didn’t work out that way. That made it challenging to ride in the full wet, as the bike was overly stiff.             Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Mat Mladin overcame cold, damp conditions to take his ninth (out of a possible 10) AMA Superbike win of the season in the first race of the double-header weekend on Saturday afternoon at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The six-time AMA Superbike Champion started from pole position and got off to a conservative start in the wet. Even so, he took the lead within several laps and led all the way to the race’s end.

            Chris Peris took his first AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL victory in the first day of the Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader.

            The AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL race closed out Saturday’s on-track activities at the Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader, and the 13-lap race was run under the most difficult weather conditions of the day with a persistent rain falling throughout.

            In a cool and rainy day at Road America, Mat Mladin continued to roll in AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike presented by Parts Unlimited.

            Despite putting the No. 7 Rockstar/Makita/Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 on pole Friday, Mladin had to overcome a few challenges to win today. First, he encountered a clutch problem that prevented him from participating in the 10-minute warm up just prior to the race. Because of that and the fact that track conditions were less than ideal, Mladin dropped back a few positions at the start.

            As he has done for every American Superbike motorcycle race thus far in 2009, Mladin put the No. 7 Rockstar/Makita/Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 on the pole, this time with a lap at 2:13.218 (109.391 mph). The six-time American Superbike champion has won eight of the season’s nine races to date and goes in search of his ninth Road America victory in Saturday’s first race of the doubleheader.
