Day 10 – Love is in the Air

Did I mention I was in love with an inanimate object? OK, so the Tuono is more like a seductive Italian inamorato than a motorcycle, but I certainly can’t compare it to what, an espresso machine? No way. I am so hooked on this bike I don’t want this trip to end. I can’t stand the thought of it being parked alone in the garage again, even just for a night.

The work done away from the track, together with the recent successful Italian tests, all added up to Brno being the best weekend of the season to date. Troy finished a superb fifth in race one, after leading the first couple of laps, and followed that up with a tenth in race two, despite tyre problems.

Ruben had qualified alongside Troy on the second row of the grid and was looking forward to him and Troy challenging the leaders in both the 20-lap races. But, a crash on the opening lap of the first race put paid to any chance of glory and left Ruben in the medical centre.

MotoGP Rookies Cup race report Sachsenring

A flag to flag win for Czech 16 year old Jakub Kornfeil in treacherous conditions at the Sachsenring boosted him to second place in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Points leader Sturla Fagerhaug crashed chasing him on the wet and slippery track but the 17 year old Norwegian still has a 25 point advantage after recovering to cross the line 12th and pick up 4 points.

In a drama-packed race, pole man Danny Kent crashed out of 2nd place exiting the final corner having just passed 16 year old South African Mathew Scholtz. That gave Scholtz 2nd and 3rd to 15 year old Californian Jake Gagne.

    DONINGTON PARK – 9th ROUND – 26, 27 and 28 JUNE 2009

Ben Spies (Yamaha World Superbike) soon got back to his Superpole winning ways with his eighth pole of the year in nine races at Donington Park in the UK. The 24 year-old Texan was the only rider to dip under 1’30" in the final run, which was conditioned by a light rain shower that prevented his rivals from responding, and he ended up in the top slot with a time of 1 minute 29.846 seconds.

Kiyonari SBK race interview from Misano

Ryuichi Kiyonari insists on taking positives from his eighth round World Superbike championship encounters at Misano in Italy, in spite of disappointing results. Today’s two races were won by American Ben Spies and Kiyonari’s Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Jonathan Rea.

In race one, Kiyonari gave the stricken Rea a lift back to the pits after the Northern Irishman’s bike suffered fuelling problems on the sighting lap. However, his gesture resulted in a ride-through penalty for both riders.

Ryuichi Kiyonari Speaks.. (4th and 5th)

I got a good start to the second part of race one and took the holeshot I think, but I had a problem with the tyre which was the same in race two. It was moving on the rim and made rear grip a real problem in both races. We decided to go with the softer tyre after warm-up but we hadn’t had a chance to do any longer runs with it. It was OK for the first couple of laps but then the problems started. It’s very disappointing but I guess the results are not so bad, and a lot better than last time at Kyalami.

World Superbike Max Neukirchner big crash at Monza

Team Suzuki Alstare Brux rider Max Neukirchner is on the mend after his horrific crash on the opening lap of the first race at Monza. On Sunday evening he underwent a six hour operation to repair the damaged bones in his right leg and although he lost quite a bit of blood, a transfusion was not deemed necessary.

According to the doctors, the operation passed without any complications and there are no reasons why Max will not make a full and successful recovery.
