    The 17-rider MotoGP grid will be lacking its only Suzuki rider this weekend at the Losail International Circuit, Qatar.

    Rizla Suzuki GSV-R’s sole rider, Alvaro Bautista, broke his left femur after a high-side at Turn 15. This immediately ended the Spaniard’s participation in Sunday’s opening round of the 2011 MotoGP Championship.

    The winds were brutal at Losail International Circuit in Qatar for Free Practice 2 (FP2) Friday afternoon, but they didn’t stop the Australian MotoGP star Casey Stoner.

    The Repsol Honda rider continued to set the pace, posting an impressive 1:55.457, a full 1.3 seconds faster than best time in Thursday’s FP1.

    The first Grand Prix of the 2011 MotoGP season got underway today under the floodlights of the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.

    In a change to the usual timings, brought about by the night-time schedule, riders took to the circuit for 45minutes tonight for the first official free practice session of the Qatar MotoGP weekend.

    In Moto2 Yuki Takahashi grabbed the quickest time of the second practice session in the dying moments, beating Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing) by just 0.053 of a second as the intermediate class and the 125s ran two practices on Thursday at Losail International Circuit, Qatar, as opposed to the single one for MotoGP.

    It hasn’t been a typical pre-season for MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi. One only has to look to the 2011 numbers to quickly understand how much Rossi has struggled adapting to the Ducati GP11.

    In the Sepang 1 test, Rossi finished 11th overall on the GP11, 1.085 seconds behind leader Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini RC212V).

    Casey Stoner almost made the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar look easy, but the Australian revealed after his third consecutive victory at the Losail International Circuit that a lot of concentration and adaptation was needed over the course of the 22-lap race.

    A fuel consumption issue had Stoner modifying his style as he streaked out in front, and he explained afterwards that his turning up the heat later on was not a direct response to some fast times from rival Valentino Rossi.

    After his horror crash in qualifying on Saturday at the Commercialbank Grand Prix of Qatar Nicky Hayden did well to come home twelfth on his Ducati race debut.

    Nicky Hayden produced an impressive display in his first race for Ducati Marlboro coming from 16th on the grid at the Losail International Circuit in Monday’s re-scheduled MotoGP contest to finish in the points in 12th place, despite his back and chest injuries.
