    John Hopkins to test AMA Superbike

    Former AMA Formula Xtreme Champion and MotoGP star John Hopkins will test a GSX-R1000 Superbike at California Speedway on February 2-3, 2010. Team Hammer, which races as Team M4 Suzuki, is in negotiations to sign Hopkins to race the 2010 AMA Pro Racing American Superbike season for Team M4 Suzuki.

    Ben Spies will join fellow Texan Colin Edwards on the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team in 2010, forming an all-American rider lineup. It’s the first time Americans will team up for a full season in the premier class since 2005, when Kenny Roberts Jr. and John Hopkins paired for Suzuki.

    Just six weeks after an unfortunate turn of faith at Assen left John Hopkins seriously injured, the ex MotoGP rider made his return with the Stiggy Racing squad, and set his first laps in hot conditions at the Misano track today.

    John Hopkins-who has been performing successfully at the Italian track in recent years-struggled to find the flexibility in his left leg. Staggering off the bike after each painful session indicated the lack of muscle power build in his short period of recuperation, and proved the big absent in order to push the bike around the track.

    The 2009 season has kicked-off in a glorious way for the Stiggy Racing Superbike squad in their debut year of World Superbike racing, with Leon Haslam taking an incredible third place on the rostrum in his maiden faring for the team at Phillip Island four months ago.

    Fourteen races in, Haslam has achieved far more aboard his Stiggy Racing Honda than the team had anticipated at the start of the season, and established himself as the revelation of the series.

    Here is a quick update on World Superbike Motorcycle racing update from Monza on American racer Jake Zemke. In race one Jake Zemke (Stiggy Racing Honda CBR1000RR), riding as a substitute for the injured John Hopkins, overcame a qualifying place of 25th to ride to 18th in race one, but was unable to keep that pace in race two, and was classified 20th.

    John Hopkins Joins World Superbike on Stiggy Racing Honda

    John Hopkins, former MotoGP Rider, joins World Superbike on Stiggy Racing Honda.

    John Hopkins will become the second American rider in this year’s Superbike World Championship when he lines up for the Stiggy Racing Honda team at the third round in Valencia on April 5th.

    Hopkins, who was due to race for the Kawasaki MotoGP team this season before the change in the Japanese manufacturer’s plans at the start of the year, replaces Italian Roberto Rolfo alongside Leon Haslam in the Swedish-based team.
