Foremost Insurance Pegram Racing and Larry Pegram are back in action this weekend at Virginia International Raceway for the Big Kahuna Nationals. Pegram will strive to duplicate his last race meeting, one that saw him win pole position and both AMA Pro American Superbike races on his Ducati 1098R at Heartland Park Topeka in what was an incredible three days for the veteran racer. Pegram has emerged victorious three times in 2009 and his hot streak has seen him rise to third place in the series points.
Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing/RMR/GEICO Powersports rider Danny Eslick earned a share AMA Pro Racing Daytona SportBike championship lead with a victory and a third place finish during a tumultuous and emotional double-header weekend for the Oklahoma rider and his team at Heartland Park-Topeka that was marred by the tragic death of team sponsor Bruce Rossmeyer, who was killed in a street motorcycle accident on the way to the Sturgis motorcycle rally on Friday.

Foremost Insurance Pegram Ducati’s Larry Pegram completed the doubleheader sweep on Sunday, earning another victory at Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas. Larry dominated the American Superbike race on Saturday, but Sunday’s event was a close fight with Tommy Hayden that left the race win in jeopardy until the checkered flag.
Pegram, mounted on the Ducati 1098R, was able to earn victory by just 0.333 after the two traded the lead in the late laps.
Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Tommy Hayden celebrated an impressive second-place finish in Sunday’s AMA Superbike race at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kansas. After finishing fourth in Saturday’s race, Hayden was particularly pleased with Sunday’s results. The Kentucky rider got a good start on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000 and was moving into position to battle for second place with his teammate Blake Young.
Young, however, went into a turn a little too fast at this point and ran off the track.
Team M4 Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas finished off the Heartland Park Topeka double-header weekend strong by winning the second of two AMA Daytona SportBike races on Sunday in Topeka, Kansas. The Colombian rider got a good start on his M4 Suzuki GSX-R600 and rode an almost flawless 20-lap race, in spite of having to go through a restart after a red flag sidelined the race early on. In the restart, Cardenas was running in third place for multiple laps before moving into second place. He paced the leader for a while and then put on a charge toward the end.
Foremost Insurance Pegram Ducati’s Larry Pegram dominated the Saturday Kansas race and won his second AMA Pro American Superbike event of the year with a 2.184-second victory at Heartland Park Topeka. Mounted on a Ducati 1098R, "The Worm" motored off from his rivals, edging out to a lead of over four seconds in the opening laps to put his stamp on the event.
Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Blake Young celebrated his fourth AMA Superbike podium finish of the season after capturing third place in Saturday afternoon’s race at the series’ return to Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kansas. This was the series’ return to the Kansas track after an almost 20-year absence and Young made the most of the first race of the double-header weekend. The rookie Superbike rider got a good start on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000 and ran in second place for several laps before settling into third.
Larry Pegram (No. 72 Foremost Insurance/Pegram Racing Ducati 1098R) won his first AMA Pro Road Racing pole since 1996 in AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike presented by Parts Unlimited competition while Jason DiSalvo (No. 40 Team M4 Suzuki GSX-R600) earned his fifth AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL pole of the season in Friday’s Superpole qualifying for the Tornado Nationals presented by BriggsAuto.com at Heartland Park Topeka.
For the first time in nearly two decades, AMA Pro Road Racing’s premier class American Superbike and Daytona SportBike teams and riders took to Heartland Park Topeka on Friday and plenty of positive reports came in about the 2.5-mile road course that has recently been put through a full complement of improvements and safety enhancements.
Track officials have continued to work on the Heartland Park facility through as recently as today’s early morning hours.
Foremost Insurance Pegram Ducati pilot Larry Pegram won Superpole for the Heartland Park Topeka round of the AMA Pro American Superbike series on Friday. Pegram, mounted on a Ducati 1098R, set the quickest time in the one-lap shootout with a mark of 1:36.368 to top Aaron Yates, Jake Holden, and Ben Bostrom. The veteran racer Pegram put in a fantastic performance in the first day at a new circuit.
