The Moto2 grid was quickly up to speed during Saturday’s qualifying for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. The top-18 riders were within a second of each other, with Paginas Amarillas HP40’s Alex Rins on top.

The rookie set a new lap record at the 2.591-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit, posting a 1:36.549. He beat the previous record set my Mika Kallio last year (1:36.883). Joining Rins on the front row at Indy Moto2 Qualifying 2015 are Estrella Galicia 0,0 Kalex’s Tito Rabat (-0.137) and Italtrans Racing Team’s Kallio, who was 0.316 of a second off the pace.

As for the reigning Moto2 Champion Rabat, he will seek top results to close in on the current Moto2 points leader Johann Zarco, who earned eighth during Indy Moto2 Qualifying 2015. After nine of 18 rounds, Zarco leads Rabat by 65 points.

Heading up row two is Derendinger Racing Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi (-0.337), who qualified ahead of AGR Team’s Jonas Folger (-0.456) and Idemitsu Honda Team Asia’s Takaaki Nakagami (-0.473).

Speed Up Racing’s Sam Lowes will have to start from seventh after crashing at turn 7 with 20 minutes left and missing a big chunk of the session. He finished ahead of Zarco, who posted his worst qualifying position since Jerez, where he qualified ninth.

Rounding out the top 10 in Indy Moto2 qualifying 2015 are Franco Morbidelli (Italtrans Racing Team) and Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) completed the top 10. Sachsenring Moto2 race winner, Xavier Simeon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2), qualified in 16th.
