2011 Superbike, Supersport & Superstock
For 2011, a few modifications were made to the World Superbike series, including some changes to the Saturday afternoon WSBK Superpole Qualifying sessions.
According to the FIM, here’s the way Superpole will go in 2011:
- The first 16 riders of the qualifying practice results will take part in Superpole 1.
- The first 12 riders of the Superpole 1 results will take part in Superpole 2.
- The first 8 riders of the Superpole 2 results will take part in Superpole 3.
In 2010, the top 20 were allowed into the Superpole session.
The weekend time schedules have also been slightly changed, with the restoration of full Friday morning activity: World Supersport now has its opening free practice session on Friday at 9:45 a.m. instead of 2 p.m. local time, and Superbike’s opening free practice session is brought forward to 11:30 a.m. from 12:45 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday schedules will remain unchanged.
In addition the minimum/maximum age limits in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup will now be extended to allow in riders born between January 1, 1985 and April 14, 1995.
Regarding wild card rides, each event host federation (FMNR) may nominate four wild card entries for the Superbike and Supersport and two wild card entries for the Superstock classes, in their own event only. Once the wild cards have been nominated by the FMNR, IMS can nominates "one event" riders.
As for technical control, teams may present a maximum of two motorcycles per rider for Superbike, and one motorcycle per rider for Supersport and Superstock, which will be specially identified by the Technical Stewards.
When racers are at the grid, tire warmers may be used; riders may use a generator to power tire warmers and air blowers on the grid.
And here are some regulations regarding the re-starting of a race that has been interrupted (red flagged): The final race classification (of the restarted race) will be established according to the position and the consolidated number of laps of each rider at the time he crossed the finish line at the end of the last part of the race.
All changes were unanimously decided on by the Superbike Commission, composed of Mr Paolo Flammini (IMS Chief Executive Officer), Ignacio Verneda (FIM Executive Director, Sport), Giulio Bardi (Team representative), during a telephone conference held on December 14 with the participation of Mr Paolo Ciabatti (IMS Director), Charles Hennekam (FIM CTI Coordinator) and Paul Duparc (FIM CCR Coordinator).
